the ecosystem app
one window that holds all of it: the assistant, the launchers for the browser and notes, live widgets, and a wallpaper that behaves. everything below runs on your machine — nothing phones home.
what you're installing
fink. is a desktop app. installing it gives you the main surface — the wordmark, the mode fan, the widget rail, and p.ai (the assistant) — plus fink.browser and fink.notes, which open from inside it as their own windows. there is no account to create and no sign-in screen, because there is no server to sign in to.
what it needs
- os: windows 10/11 first. macOS and linux follow.
- memory: 8gb works; 16gb is comfortable when the assistant is thinking.
- gpu: recommended. p.ai runs its language model locally through ollama, and dictation runs a local whisper model — both are far happier on a gpu.
- disk: a few gb for the app plus the models it caches.
first boot
the first launch loads the dictation model and lands you on the wallpaper with the wordmark at the top left. two things worth discovering immediately:
- hold the wordmark.press and hold “fink.” for about half a second and the mode fan swings out — that gesture is the app’s entire navigation. modes & the fan explains it.
- say something.the command bar reads “ask jarvis…” — type or speak. voice & models covers what the assistant can actually do.
get it
builds ship from the download pagewhen the release opens. the ticker on the site’s top-right button is the honest status: while it says waitlist, the installers aren’t public yet.
